Agadir, Morocco

After we left Casablanca yesterday at 4:00pm we headed southwest along the coast of Morocco to Agadir. After Kristi took her afternoon nap, we played some cards, went to a group game on a lounge, had dinner at about 8:30, then turned in because we had to get up early-er this morning. 


Several months ago, we booked a tour company to take us on a drive up into the hills outside of Agadir, to a location called Paradise Valley.  The group was just us and three other people. Mohammed drove us, and he was a good guide. And the weather great again!




The actual location is a short hike from where the car is parked. One can hire a donkey to take you in and out, but we decided we could walk.



Once there, Jim wanted to have some food because he was hungry and wanted to tase the most authentic food possible. At little outdoor restaurant he ordered a tajin, chicken cooked with onions and lemons. Tajin is the name of the clay pot that is used to cook. It was delicious!





After about 1 1/2 hours at Paradise Valley, we headed back to the ship. Back on board we ate, lounged, played cards. 

We left out promptly at 4:00pm.  

The next two days are cruising — sea days — as we make our way to Cape Verde off the coast of Senegal. We shall post again in a few days. Ciao!

Adventure Time!

Our next adventure begins today. We found an incredible deal on a transatlantic repositioning cruise, and we had to snatch it up. It begins in Spain, so we just had to add a little pre-cruise fun. And, the best ticket to Europe was SFO to Paris. We’ve been, but never at Christmas. We are looking forward to the City of Lights being extra bright.  As most of you know, Kristi’s health continues to be burdensome for her. In fact, just a few weeks ago we were seriously thinking about canceling our plans — in October she spent three weeks at Stanford for an unplanned surgery to remove tumors blocking her gut. But in true Kristi fashion, she’s regained much strength, and when her doctors agreed she should go, we didn’t look back. Taking it Easy

Ugh, jet lag. We know, we know—poor us. It’s almost guaranteed that on the first night we’ll wake up at 3:00 a.m. ready to go, and sure enough, we did. Jim’s schedule is so regimented that it usually takes him a couple of days to adjust. He was wide awake at 3:00 a.m. this morning until about 8:00, then finally fell asleep for a couple of hours. Kristi’s sleep, on the other hand, is so irregular that she doesn’t need to adjust in quite the same way. After a coffee and croissant on Rue Cler, we decided to walk to the Champs-Élysées and stroll toward the Arc de Triomphe. After the requisite photo, we hopped on the Metro and headed to the area near Notre-Dame. For lunch, we chose more classic French dishes: croque monsieur and steak au poivre. We wandered only three blocks before reaching Notre-Dame. The line was short, and we wanted to see it again post-fire. La Souris Mickey

Today we decided to do something that in a million years we never thought we would do, we went to visit Mickey Mouse at his Paris residence. We really wanted to do something different on this visit to Paris. After our research last night, it just seemed like the best choice. Three things stuck out to us: the food at Paris Disneyland is supposed to hold to French standards, the cost of a one-day ticket is half the price of the U.S. Disney ticket, and we are kids at heart.  After a better night sleep we started the day as one should when in Paris, an espresso and croissant. We’ve quickly regained our ability to do basic things in French. We think the bakery worker might have thought we were French this morning … well, that’s probably wishful thinking. 😆 Both of us did take French in high school.
