A un País Nuevo

We slept in a little today. After getting cleaned up and dressed we did our last patisserie visit and went to the cheese shop for our dinner on the train tonight.

It has been cold — it’s December after all. But it has been dry, so the cold was very manageable. This morning it was drizzling. We are thankful it held off for us.

We descended the three flights of stairs from our tiny apartment for the last time. We caught an Uber to Gare de Lyon (train station) for lunch and to hop on our train to Barcelona.

We had lunch at a brasserie (between the levels of a cafe and restaurant) directly under Le Train Bleu — a very high end restaurant in the train station. Each main dish at Le Train Bleu costs €78 and the next reservation was available on Jan 2. We looked at the menu though.

Our meal was very good. Kristi had a veggie sandwich and Jim had steak tartare. We shared an appetizer of fried mozzarella balls (they had rice in them), very tasty.

We booked a high speed direct train from Paris to Barcelona. It took almost 7 hours — very comfortable. Most of the ride is high speed — 186 mph for most of the trip distance. It only took us a few hours to get to the south of France. The last bit and into Spain took longer. There were more stops and less high speed track.

The cheese and bread we bought this morning was our dinner. The last bit of French food … and the eclairs.
